AUGUST 8, 2014 in Haines, Alaska
Hello everyone. We arrived in Alaska at 12:30p yesterday. Had Lunch at Mile 33 restaurant. It has not changed very much from 4 years ago. Let me just say it was fantastic to pass over the border into the USA. We were so excited to get to Haines and see Dottie and Dave. I took a great photo of the Welcome to Haines sign but on my phone. Oh well we are here. We had stopped in Haines Junction at the Village Bakery to pick up freshly made cheddar and jalipineo (not spelled right) bread for Dave and cranberry scones for Dottie. This bakery is awesome!
We checked into the Oceanview RV Park in Haines, right on the water. We are packed in tight there but the view is fantastic, yet cool. It is around 55 degrees today. For those of you who watch "Gold Rush" with the miners like the Hoffmans, Schnabels etc. Grampa Schnabel owns this campground we are in. We also drove by Parker Schnabel's parents home and the road to the Porcupine mine on our way into Haines. Anyway just a bit of trivia.
We met with Dottie first at their Bear Den Gift Shop. Then we walked down to the dock to surprise Dave as he came in from fishing. They were just as excited to see us. Anyway, we went to they're place and Dave cooked up fresh Halibut and Salmon. Deep fired Halibut and grilled Salmon. Soooo good. We drank wine, ate and just talked and had a great time. After dinner Dave took us to the Chilkoot Lake that we loved the last time we were here. Just beautiful of course. Internet is not readily available but we are using Mike's hotspot right now. The view from Haines is just BEAUTIFUL. We are here for the next 5 days then off to Fairbanks. Too slow to download photos. Photos sometime in the future I guess. Mike made his fantastic "Corn Chowder" for dinner tonight. Yummy.
